History
Contessa was purchased from "Wolf Country U.S.A." in Alaska. She rode the whole way home under her new owner's plane seat. For the next eight years, she was well socialized and loved until her owner's lifestyle began involving him spending half the year in Asia. When he decided he could no longer keep Contessa, Oedipus made a sizable donation to the Sanctuary's land purchase, and staff members Mary and Angel drove to pick-up Contessa from her old home near Boston, MA. After a forty-two hour drive, Contessa arrived at Wild Spirit.
How Can I Help Contessa?
It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.
Profile
Bio: While Contessa was sold to her owners as a timber wolf, we believe she has some dog in her as well.
Living Arrangements: Contessa currently lives by herself.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Yes, and since I love people so much, I usually approach the fence to get scratches from the tour guide."
Personality: Contessa is a very social animal who loves everyone that walks by her enclosure. She is very sweet towards caretakers and volunteers and loves to roll over for belly rubs. Contessa also has a naughty streak in her, and if given the opportunity, will claim caretakers' items as her own. She can also become sensitive to body posture, and it is not unusual for her to snarl or growl at volunteers that make mistakes with their body language.
Likes: Going for walks, belly rubs, and milk bones.
Dislikes: New and intimidating animals, vet visits, and being forced into something she doesn't like.
Fun Fact: During the Howl-o-Ween Party of '08, Contessa received her very first pumpkin in front of a crowd of camera-toting guests. Contessa seemed much more pleased with her audience than the treat-filled pumpkin! Instead of devouring her treat, she rubbed up against the fence to say hello to the visitors.
My Wishlist: "The current enclosure I live in has purple dog houses that we use as shelter and as an observation deck. The dog houses are sort of small - if someone were to build a wooden house or wooden platform for me to stand on, I could stay better in the gossip!"
