Foxy

History

On October 13th, 2010, sixty-eight New Guinea Singing Dogs were found being illegally kept at a kennel in Pennsylvania. The kennel was allowed to keep ten of the animals while the rest were brought to rescue facilities. Many went to Arizona where they stayed for a few months. Unfortunately, the owner of the rescue decided that she couldn't care for so many animals, due to medical concerns with her son. She asked if we could take five of the animals. The owner's mother drove them out to the Sanctuary.

How Can I Help Foxy?

Animal Sponsorships

It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.

Quarterly Enrichment
Every three months we give each of our animals an exciting enrichment treat. Not only does it help to mentally and physically stimulate the wolves and wolf-dogs, but it also goes to support them for the rest of the quarter.

Profile

Bio: Foxy is a New Guinea Singing dog.
Living Arrangements: Foxy lives with two other New Guineas, Bowie and Bono.
Am I On the Tour Path? "No, I live at the back of the Sanctuary. However, if you are a sponsor of mine and would like to say hello, ask someone in the office if you can come up for a visit."
Personality: Foxy is the shyest of the five New Guineas. Although she will approach a few of her caretakers, she generally doesn't like being touched. She is the queen of the group and often takes it upon herself to punish her other packmates. Recently, she chased away two of the females living in her group. We believe this was due to her hormones flaring. Foxy is now spayed, and we hope to reintroduce the two females soon.
Likes: Being in charge, sleeping under "her" tree, being left alone.
Dislikes: Feeling cornered, the boys stealing her food, Princess
Fun Fact: When we agreed to accepting the New Guinea Singing dogs, it sounded like we would be getting five puppies. However, once they arrived, it quickly appeared that Foxy is an adult. While that is no problem, it does seem that Foxy's age is why she is in charge of the group.
My Wishlist: "Those naughty boys keep trying to steal my food. I would love it if someone brought some treats that could be just for ME."
