Goldie

History

In the middle of August of 2009, we received an email about five wolf-dogs living at Raven Woods Animal Shelter in Roseland, Louisiana. This family of wolf-dogs was surrendered to the shelter when they were young pups. While a few were adopted out to homes, they were eventually returned, and due to their wolf heritage, the shelter felt uncomfortable adopting them out to homes again. Sadly, while the shelter's owner kept their enclosure clean, and the wolf-dogs fed, watered and healthy, they lived almost two years of their lives in a 10 ft by 10 ft pen with a concrete floor. On the way back from visiting family in Pennsylvania, Brennan and Angel went down to visit a good friend of theirs in New Orleans, and stopped by Raven Woods to visit with the shelter's manager, John, and the wolf-dogs. While none of the littermates were very high-content, it was obvious that the five needed a better situation. We decided to accept the litter, and two months later, Brennan and Angel hit the road again to pick up the five wolf-dogs.

How Can I Help Goldie?

Animal Sponsorships

It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.

Quarterly Enrichment
Every three months we give each of our animals an exciting enrichment treat. Not only does it help to mentally and physically stimulate the wolves and wolf-dogs, but it also goes to support them for the rest of the quarter.

Profile

Bio: Goldie is a low-content wolf-dog, possibly mixed with Malamute and German Shepherd.
Living Arrangements: Goldie lives with her four siblings in an enclosure: Azteca, Juno, Katrina, and Saint.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Yes, but I'm the shyest of my group, so do not be surprised if I stay further back than my siblings."
Personality: It is hypothesized that Goldie is the wolfiest of her family, and her personality seems to reflect that. She is much shyer than her brother and sisters and tends to hang back when the group mass-greets a volunteer. Goldie's timidity makes her the target of dominance spats, and many of her siblings like to chase Goldie around and tackle her when she is nervous.
Likes: Yelling at passing volunteers or animals, racing around her enclosure, and toys.
Dislikes: Her sisters picking on her, too many volunteers in the area, and getting approached head-on.
My Wishlist: "With so many animals in my enclosure, it sure would be great if we had a guillotine gate installed. That way, I could be separated from my siblings during meal time and be able to eat in peace and quiet!"
