Gypsy

History

Gypsy was found roaming Grand Prairie, Texas by a kind lady named Aubrey. For many months, Gypsy wandered through the neighborhood, occasionally greeting the children that lived in the area and receiving her meals from Aubrey. When Gypsy became pregnant and had a litter of eight pups, Aubrey became concerned. Gypsy's behavior had turned defensive, and she began snapping and snarling at people who walked past her family. Animal Control knew of Gypsy's existence, and Aubrey was worried that if they caught her, Gypsy would be euthanized. She contacted us to help her, and Leyton and Allison drove to Texas to rescue her. It took three days before she was finally caught, and Gypsy and her puppies were brought to the Sanctuary. Once the puppies were old enough, all eight of them were adopted out to loving homes.

How Can I Help Gypsy?

Animal Sponsorships

It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.

Quarterly Enrichment
Every three months we give each of our animals an exciting enrichment treat. Not only does it help to mentally and physically stimulate the wolves and wolf-dogs, but it also goes to support them for the rest of the quarter.

Profile

Bio: Gypsy is a low-content wolf-dog.
Living Arrangements: Gypsy currently has a playmate in her enclosure, Dusty-Pup.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Maybe. I'm in the very front of the Sanctuary next to Romeo. The tour guides don't normally take people past my enclosure, but you can easily see me from the courtyard."
Personality: When Gypsy's pups lived with her in the enclosure, Gypsy was very defensive. She would sneak around behind her caretaker and try to snap at their back. However, with patience and love from the volunteers, Gypsy is becoming much more social. She tolerates small amounts of scratches on her chin, but still despises any other attention beyond that. With her pups gone and now living with Dusty-Pup, Gypsy is becoming quite playful.
Likes: Playing with other canines, howling at the dogs in the courtyard, and chasing a ball.
Dislikes: People around her puppies, sudden movements, and too many people around her enclosure.
Fun Fact: The trip to pick up Gypsy was no easy task. Fog, snow, stomach flu, a closed highway, interfering Animal Control, a black-out in the motel...these are just some of the things Leyton and Allison experienced on their trip! Fortunately, we were able to raise awareness about Gypsy's situation when ABC News sent a video crew to film the capture. Regardless, it was a trip that the humans and Gypsy will never forget!
My Wishlist: "I'm still only a young girl, and would love to have some toys! Especially good toys for catch or to play tug-of-war!"
