Juno

History

In the middle of August of 2009, we received an email about five wolf-dogs living at Raven Woods Animal Shelter in Roseland, Louisiana. This family of wolf-dogs was surrendered to the shelter when they were young pups. While a few were adopted out to homes, they were eventually returned, and due to their wolf heritage, the shelter felt uncomfortable adopting them out to homes again. Sadly, while the shelter's owner kept their enclosure clean, and the wolf-dogs fed, watered and healthy, they lived almost two years of their lives in a 10 ft by 10 ft pen with a concrete floor. On the way back from visiting family in Pennsylvania, Brennan and Angel went down to visit a good friend of theirs in New Orleans, and stopped by Raven Woods to visit with the shelter's manager, John, and the wolf-dogs. While none of the littermates were very high-content, it was obvious that the five needed a better situation. We decided to accept the litter, and two months later, Brennan and Angel hit the road again to pick up the five wolf-dogs.

How Can I Help Juno?

Animal Sponsorships

It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.

Quarterly Enrichment
Every three months we give each of our animals an exciting enrichment treat. Not only does it help to mentally and physically stimulate the wolves and wolf-dogs, but it also goes to support them for the rest of the quarter.

Profile

Bio: Juno is a low-content wolf-dog, possibly mixed with Malamute and German Shepherd.
Living Arrangements: Juno lives with her four siblings in an enclosure: Azteca, Goldie, Katrina, and Saint.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Yes, and if I'm feeling brave, will run to the front of the fence with my siblings to get a better look."
Personality: Juno is one of the shyer members of her group, but shows great promise in one day becoming more sociable. Several times she has play-bowed to caretakers and raced around the enclosure in what appears to be an attempt to get her caretaker to join in the fun. Juno tends to pick on her sister, Goldie, whenever Goldie is nervous, but tends to run away herself if things look intimidating.
Likes: Trying to initiate play with her caretaker, picking on Goldie, and wrestling with her siblings.
Dislikes: Someone trying to touch her, her penmates stealing her medball, and large groups around her enclosure.
Fun Fact: Juno is the easiest to tell apart of her litter. Not only does she have a much darker coat than any of her siblings, but also has a nick in her ear. We don't know how she got it, but it doesn't seem to bother her. In fact, we think it makes her look quite handsome!
My Wishlist: "All of my siblings live in an enclosure together, and..well..it can get a little messy in there. Luckily, our caretaker is great about cleaning up after us. The only thing is, it turns out the tools my caretaker uses is getting a little worn. I would love it if someone could donate a shovel and hoe pair for my caretaker."
