Kota

History

Kota (originally “Lakota”) is a beautiful high-content wolf-dog who originally came from Windancer Wolves. He was lucky enough to have two wonderful human parents, a young man and his aunt. Unfortunately, the young man is currently serving overseas in the marines, and his aunt’s health declined sending her to hospice prior to her passing a few weeks later. While she was in hospice care, Kota’s human grandma (his “dad’s” mom) came to Scottsdale to care for Kota, but with a young daughter and other obligations at home in Florida, she was not able to stay. She called Kota’s breeder, who agreed to take him back temporarily, but needed some help with transport. When she called Wild Spirit, it was decided that it would be easier for Kota to board with us instead of traveling so far from his home. When the woman in hospice passed away, it left Kota’s future uncertain.

For now, Kota is happily living at Wild Spirit with one of our older residents, Duchess. He is a sweet boy who has stolen the heart of many volunteers, staff and visitors to the Sanctuary and is welcome to stay for the rest of his days. If when “his boy” returns from service he is able to provide Kota with a home once again, we will happily arrange for the reunion. In the meantime, we’ll continue enjoying Kota as a gregarious addition to our wild family!

How Can I Help Kota?

Animal Sponsorships

It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.

Quarterly Enrichment
Every three months we give each of our animals an exciting enrichment treat. Not only does it help to mentally and physically stimulate the wolves and wolf-dogs, but it also goes to support them for the rest of the quarter.

Profile

Bio: Kota is an extremely high-content wolf-dog.
Living Arrangements: Kota lives with a wolf named Duchess.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Yes, and I often run to the front of the fence to watch tours pass by."
Personality: Kota is one of the biggest animals at the Sanctuary; good thing he is so sweet! Kota is playful by nature, and often leaps at his caretaker when she enters the enclosure. He often gives volunteers scratches and bruises, but he doesn't have a mean gene in his body. He can become skittish at times, and it is not uncommon to see him run to the back of his enclosure when things are busy or noisy. After a rocky start, Kota and Duchess are developing a healthy relationship, and they have been spotted playing with one another in the evening.
Likes: Receiving scratches through the fence, grabbing volunteers' arms, and acting goofy.
Dislikes: Too many people around his enclosure, loud noises, and Duchess trying to steal his medball.
Fun Fact: Kota is a giant! He is easily the largest animal at the Sanctuary (height-wise), and stands over six-feet tall while on his hind legs. He makes poor Duchess look positively small!
My Wishlist: "Due to my large size, I am receiving Joint Discovery to help with joint function. I would love if somebody helped with this cost, or bought me some joint discovery for my medball!"
