History
Lucian arrived in April 2008 when his owners, Greg and Aymee, brought him to the Sanctuary. Greg had purchased Lucian when he was a few months old from a breeder who claimed Lucian was a Native American Indian Dog. Before Greg purchased him, the breeder socialized Lucian well by taking him to his kindergarten class to play with the kids. Lucian joined Greg's home, already shared with two female German Shepherds. When Greg began dating a nice woman named Aymee, the two quickly realized that Lucian was not really an Indian Dog, and with some research, decided he was a wolf-dog. It was decided that it would be best for him to find a Sanctuary before problems began developing, and at the age of three, Lucian came to Wild Spirit.
How Can I Help Lucian?
It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.
Profile
Bio: Lucian is a high-content Black-phase Timber wolf.
Living Arrangements: Lucian lives with a high-content wolf-dog, Cove.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Yes, and I typically sprint to the fence if tours walk by, especially if it is a large group tour."
Personality: There is only one word that can properly describe Lucian - exuberant. He has an exuberant personality, exuberant mannerisms, and an exuberant appetite! Lucian is a ball of energy and likes to race his companion, Cove, around the enclosure (Cove always wins). He is very affectionate towards caretakers but has a naughty side - he likes to play with clothing and jump on his caretaker when they are least expecting it. It sometimes appears that Lucian wants to be dominant, but no one can take him too seriously.
Likes: Cove, kissing female volunteers, and howling at tours.
Dislikes: Being held onto, Cove getting more attention, and meaty bones being removed from his enclosure.
Fun Fact: Lucian is one of the oddest animals when it comes to body language. Everything seems to be the opposite with him, or it doesn't mean anything at all! For example, Lucian continuously holds his tail high in the air. Typically, this means that the wolf is being dominant or aggressive. For Lucian, it means nothing, or it means that he's excited!
My Wishlist: "I can't help myself - I must dig in my water bucket! It is just too much fun to splash in the water..but unfortunately, that means the tour path is always muddy from my excessive water digging. If someone donated gravel to help as a water drainage system, then I wouldn't feel so guilty about all the splashing!"
