Zoerro

History

Zoerro's owner, Rory, needed a companion for his white German shepherd after his black German shepherd passed away. A friend suggested that Rory purchase a wolf-dog instead of buying a $1,800 German shepherd. Rory found a litter and drove out to pick up a male. He chose the largest male who also appeared the most skittish and named him Zoerro. When Rory picked him up to take him home, Zoerro defended himself, which was Rory's first sign that things would be different than raising a domestic dog. Over the next eighteen months, the two began bonding, although there was a fair share of challenging moments. Around the age where Rory began thinking that Zoerro would calm down, the wolf-dog actually showed more wild characteristics. Finally, after witnessing other people doing irresponsible behaviors around Zoerro, Rory realized it was only a matter of time before Zoerro was in a situation where someone wanted to take him away, euthanize him, or both. Rory browsed through the internet for rescues and found Wild Spirit. After reviewing the website, numerous conversations, and a couple of emails, Rory decided that Wild Spirit presented the best possibility for a full and happy life for Zoerro. Rory, after bringing Zoerro to Wild Spirit, stayed for a few weeks to help improve Zoerro's habitat. After leaving, Rory decided that he wanted to help Wild Spirit's mission, as well as remain active in Zoerro's life, and is now a full-time volunteer living at our Sanctuary.

How Can I Help Zoerro?

Animal Sponsorships

It takes fifteen sponsors to provide the basic care for each of our wolves and wolf-dogs for an entire year. This does not include the cost of medication, vet visits, enclosures repairs, or enrichment treats.

Quarterly Enrichment
Every three months we give each of our animals an exciting enrichment treat. Not only does it help to mentally and physically stimulate the wolves and wolf-dogs, but it also goes to support them for the rest of the quarter.

Profile

Bio: Zoerro is a high-content wolf-dog.
Living Arrangements: Zoerro lives with another high-content wolf-dog, Contessa.
Am I On the Tour Path? "Yes! Come out for a tour and visit me!"
Personality: Zoerro is a puppy in an adolescent's body. He's very playful and loves attention from people. He sometimes tries to steal things, especially bracelets, but is pretty responsive to swapping the stolen item for something more interesting. It took patience on Zoerro's part, but he has now convinced Contessa to swallow her pride and frolic with him around the enclosure.
Likes: Long walks, flopping on his back and getting belly rubs, and his dad Rory.
Dislikes: Being left behind while other animals are out walking and fasting days.
Fun Fact: When Zoerro first arrived, he got into a habit of pulling his water bucket away from the fence, forcing somebody to go in and reattach it to the fence! We are confident it was an elaborate ploy for attention.
My Wishlist: "I LOVE the Waggin' Train Chicken Jerky you can buy at places like Wal-Mart. Could someone bring me a bag, pretty please?"
