Fenris

Fenris was raised by a wonderful owner who took great care of him since he was puppy. The lady made sure to socialize Fenris well and gave him a great life in North Carolina. However, when Fenris' owner decided to get married and return to school, she realized she could not properly take care of Fenris and decided to bring him to our sanctuary in the beginning of 1998. She even donated money to help build him a very large enclosure. Fenris' tear duct was torn because he got into a fight when he was a puppy. It continued to leak because it could not be repaired, but it didn't seem to mind Fenris that much.
Fenris was a big ol' cuddly bear, and loved attention in any form. Fenris loved human companionship and swooned when he got petted on his chest, butt, and the inside of his leg. Fenris was very close to Meea, and the two of them usually slept next to each other. They also played with one another; Fenris would roll Meea onto her back and playfully bite at her neck. When Meea was adopted out by a family, we contemplated several different mates for the big man. Finally, we introduced Fenris to Shunka. They hit it off well right away, and we even considered moving them in together right then. Unfortunately, Fenris became stuck in one of the many holes found in Shunka's enclosure, and after rescuing him, he was placed back in his enclosure. Since then, the holes were filled, and the two were reunited. However, Fenris' large sized proved to be a problem for his hips and hindquarters. With time, he began to slow down and have trouble moving around. When it appeared that he was in severe pain because of his hips, we took Fenris to the vet where he was euthanized.

Fenris was a mid-content wolf dog, possibly a mix between Arctic wolf and Canadian Shepard.
