| Juneau was born on a game ranch in Texas. When she was four weeks old, she was sold to a woman from California. Delighted with her new pet, Juneau's owner gave her every comfort possible and much love. What the woman did not realize, however, was that wolves and wolf dogs were not were legal in their county at that time. Someone informed animal control about Juneau, and the owner was given two weeks to find Juneau a new home or refuge to live at or they would euthanize Juneau. Desperately, the owner phoned around until she contacted us. We agreed to take Juneau, and she arrived here at three-months old. She went in with a male named Sasquatch, until he passed away, and then lived with Bao. |

Juneau was a sweet lady who was full of spunk. Even when she was older, she still could be mischievous, and would take a caretaker's poop bucket and spill out its contents, or steal an article of clothing. During the winter months, Juneau also loved to lick the chapstick off a caretaker's lips. Her favorite place to be rubbed was her stomach, but you had to bend down to pet her belly, for she would not roll over onto her back. Juneau was somewhat skittish around loud noises and sudden movements, so you had to always walk slowly around her and talk gently. It seemed the more she was comfortable around someone, the more she would show her true mood; if she was grumpy that day, she would have certainly told you! People who had a very close relationship with Juneau had to sometimes watch that she did not try to dominate them. Juneau first lived with Sasquatch, before moving in with Bao, and although some believed they were not close with one another, there were moments when the two could be seen snuggling. When Bao passed away, Juneau moved in with Ishi. The two got along well, except for Juneau loved to dig holes for Ishi to fall into. Juneau had begun to develop a tumor on her neck, which was pushing on her airway. We decided to euthanize Juneau, one day after Ishi passed away.
Juneau was either an Alaskan Tundra wolf or Buffalo Plains wolf. She passed away at the age of fifteen. |
