Nakona

Nakona was a proven escape artist, and before arriving here, had spent her life at many different homes. But each home she went to could not contain her, and so she finally ended up at an animal shelter. Fortunately, she wound up at an animal shelter staffed by very nice people who fell in love with Nakona because of her sweet disposition and tendency to be social towards people of all age and gender. A woman also befriended Nakona and rescued her, bringing her from Colorado to our sanctuary. In the beginning, Nakona was our ambassador animal because of her sweet personality, but has since retired.

Nakona was still a sweet girl who loved just about everyone. She would come up excitedly when anyone approached, hoping for some love. In her enclosure, Nakona would bound forward when anyone entered; she loved to get rubbed all over. Nakona would usually scent roll anyone in her enclosure and had the tendency to knock the person over if you did not anticipate how strong she was! During her spare time, Nakona loved to tease whoever was in the isolation enclosures next to her. Whether on purpose or not, this teasing was a great benefit for us, for it allowed us to see the personalities of our brand new animals. Nakona lived with her mate, Mr. Shyloh. The two were a great pair, but sometimes bickered when it came to attention. If Mr. Shyloh began to nip people too hard, Nakona would walk over and bite Mr. Shyloh, as if trying to make him stop. Mr. Shyloh was euthanized, and a year later, Nakona subcummed to old age as well.

Nakona was a low-content wolf dog with possible malamute. She passed away at the age of fourteen.
