| Sequoia was bred and then sold to a college student in Utah. Her owner tried to keep her in his dorm, which did not work out. Sequoia constantly tried to escape, and so the student resorted to chaining her outside. Sequoia became lonely and unhappy, and finally realizing this was not the proper life of an animal, the student contacted us to see if we could take her. We were currently looking for a female for one of our animals, and gladly took Sequoia in. |

Sequoia was an alpha female who would dominate Manu, her mate, fiercely, which he took in good humor. Sequoia barked constantly, especially when strangers or other dogs walked by her enclosure. However, once inside her pen, Sequoia was a sweetie who loved to play. She would usually bring over her toys to be thrown or to wrestle with. As an alpha, she demanded to be the center of attention, and would do so at Manu's expense. She was food aggressive towards him, and would steal his food when given the chance. When Manu passed away, our own executive director Leyton tried to bring Sequoia into his home. Unfortunately, his current companions would not accept Sequoia, and reluctantly, he could not adopt her. Sequoia developed a large lump on her side, and after monitoring it for a few weeks, we decided to take her into the vet for surgery. Everything seemed to be going fine for months, until the lump returned and began growing larger every day. When we returned her to the vet, they informed us that the cancer had spread through her entire body. She was suffering, and they suggested that we euthanize. With heavy hearts, Sequoia was put to sleep.
Sequoia was a low-content wolf dog, with possible malamute mix. She passed away at the age of twelve. |
