Taza

Taza was one of the seven babies born from Ammon Ra and Nashoba, and raised at our sanctuary, including his siblings Zeus, Shakti, Lycea, Ghengis Khan, Selena, and Chaka Zulu. When Taza was young, he lived indoors with the rest of the cubs. Once they grew older, he moved outside into an enclosure with his father, Ammon Ra, and sister, Lycea. However, both Taza and Lycea proved too dominant, and were moved to a separate enclosure. Taza loved to greet people with a stick in his mouth, especially strangers. Because of this, we thought he represented the prototype of the "first dog", i.e. a wolf coming to the camp fire of ancient man with a stick in his mouth.

Taza was one of the babies that actually turned out social towards humans, unlike some of his other brothers and sisters. He was, however, shy, and while he could become attached to humans, he mostly preferred to keep to himself. If anyone new entered his enclosure, he would usually come over to take a sniff. Through the fence, Taza was much more social, and would come up to investigate a tour and see if anyone had food. He also had the tendacy to "mark" tour guides while on their tour! He was very curious through the fence, and would try to figure out what a foreign object nearby was. Taza lived with his sister, Lycea, and the two got along fine. They could sometimes be seen lying next to one another, soaking up the sun. As time went on, Taza began to show the typical signs up old age. After a hard week, he passed away peacefully in his favorite den inside the enclosure.

Taza was a Timber wolf. He passed away at age eleven.
