Waya

Waya was purchased from a breeder when she a puppy by a woman named Susan. Susan is a friend of the sanctuary, and to give Waya a good home, she brought her to us, where Waya has remained ever since.

Waya was a very shy girl who usually stayed near the back of her enclosure. She enjoyed the privacy her enclosure offered, because it was far away from staff members working and tours walking by. Waya mostly preferred to be left alone, but if she became attached to a caretaker, she might sniff them gently if the person sat quietly in the enclosure. Waya lived with her mate, Van Gogh, and the two enjoyed a life of peace until he passed away. Waya remained by herself for a few months until an eligible bachelor, Lakota, became available. They were placed together, and it seemed that Waya was pleased to have a new handsome young man! Waya was one of the eldest animals at the Sanctuary and so showed many of the typical signs of old age, including a fluid sac that developed on her back right leg several months before. We were advised by the vet, due to her stress around humans and old age, not to bring her in and have it removed. During her last week at the Sanctuary, it seemed her body was breaking down and the sac broke. We do not know for certain what caused her death, but we believe it was a combination of old age and an infection.

Waya was a mid-content wolf dog. She passed away at the age of fifteen.
