Nimoy

Nimoy came to Wild Spirit at only one year old, and already had developed quite the tale. Although no one exactly knows his early past, he was mostly likely born out from a breeder in Oregon. He stayed with one family, and then moved into a second household with a loving couple. Nimoy was then placed into a different household, and during the first day in his new environment, escaped. He was loose to roam around the neighborhood for over three months, and then taken in by a woman. The previous couple, who were finally told of Nimoy's escape after one month of him being loose, were able to pick up Nimoy, and then micro-chipped, vaccinated, and neutered him. Since then, Nimoy continued to live with the couple. However, the husband of the couple was being transferred from Oklahoma to Colorado and began the process of moving. This combined with an un-welcoming neighbor, Nimoy's escape history, and the fact that the couple never intended on adding a wolf to the family, decided to place Nimoy into a more suitable environment. They searched for rescue facilities in Oklahoma, but any they found were either already at capacity or not up to their standards. Finally, with the promise of helping to support him through his years, his age making him easy to integrate, and the recent passing of several of our older animals, we were able to offer Nimoy a home. Nimoy came to us with the actual name of "Lakota". We decided to change his name, due to the surplus of similar sounding names at the Sanctuary (Lakota the wolf-dog, Dakota the wolf, and the newly named Nakota). Many new names were suggested, but none seemed to fit the new animal. One volunteered commented that he looked like Mr. Spock from Star Trek, and that is when Leyton, our director, decided to name Nimoy for Leonard Nimoy (who plays Mr. Spock).
Nimoy's adventured have not ended since arriving at the Sanctuary. He was introduced to many animals to see whom he could have as a potential companion. First, he was brought in with Forest Pack, but they chased poor Nimoy down a hole and wouldn't let him out! We tried Nimoy with one of the female Timbers, Savannah, but her companion, Storm wouldn't have it! Finally, Nimoy was introduced to Powder Pack, where he lived with the group for over eight months. Unfortunately, as the group grew older, group dynamics changed and Nimoy was kicked out of the group. Nimoy has moved in with his new sweetheart, Rain, and the pair are a match made in heaven. Nimoy is a sweet and social kid who loves attention of all sorts; he is especially known for his famous "hugs" he gives volunteers! Even when Nimoy was contained in the animal care office after an injury, he still was loving and endlessly patient.

Nimoy is a high-content wolf-dog.
