Sunbear

Sunbear was initially just a boarder at our sanctuary, meaning we would take care of him for a short period of time, and his owner would pick him up at a later date. Unfortunately, like so many of the animals that are left at our sanctuary to board, Sunbear was never picked up. He stayed as a boarding animal for six months, until officially, his owner called saying they were unable to take him back. Sunbear than became part of the growing family at our sanctuary in 1999.

Since boarders stay in much smaller enclosures than regular residents, it was a huge relief for Sunbear to finally be released into a larger enclosure! Sunbear has remained somewhat nervous; however, he has no problem approaching the fence. If someone enters his enclosure, he becomes much more skittish, and will sometimes offer a nervous grunt to show his displeasure. He will socialize with the right person if they only give him positive attention and lots of patience. Sunbear is very inquisitive of new things inside his enclosure, and will usually investigate it. Sunbear lives with his mate, Luna, and the two are quite affectionate with one another. He is food aggressive, and will try to steal Luna's food if given the chance.

Sunbear is a low to mid-content wolf dog, possibly a shepard mix.
