| Zeus and his brother, Oscar, were owned by a man who took care of them very well. The man made every attempt to protect the siblings from the normal problems wolf dogs experience; however, even with all of his efforts, he was unable to avoid catastrophe. When a neighbor's daughter was doing a school project on wolves, the mother asked Zeus' owner if it would be okay for her daughter to take a picture with his wolf dogs. The owner expressed his concern that this was not a good idea and refused. However, the mother took it upon herself to lift her daughter over Zeus' fenced-in enclosure. With this unexpected guest, Zeus became over-excited, jumped on the girl and an injury was sustained when part of the girl's face was torn. While no one is sure what took place, with speculation on the nature of the injury and Zeus' personality, it is guessed that during the excitement, either one of his canines or a dew claw got caught on the girls' lip, and when she was pulled from the enclosure, it had snagged, tearing part of her face. In today's society, whatever the incident might be, when a wolf dog is involved execution is usually the ending outcome. Thus, the owner made every attempt to remove Zeus from the property as quickly as possible. Zeus and Oscar came to Wild Spirit with the intention of simply boarding until teh owner could move to new property; however, the brothers were both left at Wild Spirit with little to no contact from the owner. After more than two years time, the Sanctuary has now taken on the responsibility of their permanent care. |

Zeus is an energetic man who is generally sociable and affectionate animal. He will run right over as soon as anyone enters his enclosure and will beg for attention. He is also curious and will instantly come over to investigate any strange objects in his enclosure (which explains the extreme close-ups of his pictures!). While he gets along with almost everyone, Zeus is sometimes intimidated by certain men entering his territory. Zeus is also considered rather food frenzied, and can be food aggressive towards other animals during feeding time. Zeus used to live with his brother Oscar until sibling rivaly kicked in and they began to fight. We separated the two, and for a period of time, we tried desperately to find Zeus a mate who could handle his food aggression. Surprisingly, the answer came in the form of Embla, who we introduced to Zeus after she lost her mate. The two are absolutely adorable with one another, and they were found their first night sleeping together inside the box in their enclosure.
