When Sabine was first removed from her mother, unlike the other pups in the litter, she consistently had a difficult time drinking from a bottle. Various nipples, positions and everything else were tried, but until Sabine arrived at WSWS, she consistently drank very little in comparison to the other pups. At first arrival, while the other cubs weighed 2 1/2 to 3 lbs, Sabine was a measly 2 lbs, and still to this day is the smallest of all the kids. However, with a little extra TLC, Sabine was offered the bottle as often as she was awak, and held close to her caretaker's heart so that she would begin to drift back to sleep. This process made drinking from the bottle much easier, and while she still "chewed" more than sucked, Sabine began eating as much (if not more!) than all of her siblings on a regular basis. |

Now, while still little, she is quite the plump little girl and all that extra love and attention has created a very strong, adventurous and playful girl, who has already become the notorious escape artist of the bunch. Sabine was the first to escape the original puppy enclosure, the first to weasel out of the large enclosure they are in today, the first climb out of the containment area and consistently, the first to figure out how to climb anything new! She is also quite the born leader, apparently, as all the other kids seem to follow suit rather quickly! While Sabine is a very self-assured wolf, when she is interested in attention, she often will climb into a visitor's lap, tucking her tail and plastering her ears down, whimpering and whining in solicitation for a belly rub and a quick cuddle. She also loves going for walks and is very well behaved on a leash - as long as she is in the lead! Still to this day, if she holds still long enough, caretakers can put her to sleep by holding her close to their heartbeat.
Sabine is an Arctic wolf. |
