Arctic Wolf Cubs

(The Coffee Skunks)

At three weeks of age, six arctic wolf puppies became residents of WSWS. After putting the word out that we were looking for one or two puppies to raise with the hopes of one or both becoming an ambassador, a previous breeder in Oregon contacted us to let us know he would donate two of his new pups. With only a few days before Leyton, our director and his wife and daughter went to pick up the new kids, the man informed us that we could plan on picking up all six. After a long care rid of bottle-feeding, stimulating and hungry little howls, six Arctic wolf cubs arrived at Wild Spirit.

During the next few weeks, the Arctic pups became lovingly referred to as "The Coffee Skunks". Georgia, Leyton's wife and the editor of our newsletter, the Howling Reporter, developed this name because she describes puppy breath as a combination of smells, including the distinct odor of skunk mixed with that immediate coffee breathe following a cup-of-joe. (It should be noted, however, that Georgia thinks both of these smells are pleasant!) Pretty soon, the name got picked up by everyone at Wild Spirit and is still stuck with us today as a way of referring to the group.
