Axel

Axel lived in Oregon at a breeding facility with his parents, Yukon and Sierra. Although Axel was bottle-raised as a cub, he grew up aggressive towards the breeder and proved very difficult for the breeder to manage. Since the breeder was planning on getting out of the wolf-breeding business, we were hoping to drive up to Oregon to pick up Sierra and Yukon, his breeding pair, but couldn't afford the trip. The breeder, however, generously offered to pay for the trip's expenses if we picked up Yukon, Sierra, and Axel. We were, during this time, looking for a mate for one of our animals, and thought Axel would be a perfect match and so picked him up with his parents.

Axel is part of our Arctic family at Wild Spirit. Along with his parents, Sierra and Yukon, we are also housing six of his younger siblings: Storm, Alice, Thunderbob, Powder, Sugar, and Sabine, that we received last year. Axel became big brother again when his parents gave birth to five more arctic cubs at our Sanctuary: Teton, Shasta, and Trinity, Frost, and Flurry. Axel is very shy and usually keeps to himself near the back of the enclosure. Around people he is comfortable with, he will come up closer to the fence. He will even sometimes eat treats from his caretaker's hand. However, if the distinctive 'huffing" noise of a wolf sounding an alarm is heard, everyone will usually look towards Axel's direction. Axel lived with Princess, one of our older females who needed a companion for a long time. Luckily, the two turned out to be a perfect match; even before being formally introduced to one another, the two white wolves were seen whimpering at one another and rubbing up against each other through the fence. Princess passed away, and now Axel lives by himself, awaiting a new companion.

Axel is an Arctic wolf.
