Duchess

Duchess and her brother, Geronimo, came to Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary with their mother, Princess, when we accepted a staff member who owned the family group. The woman who owned the threesome had raised Duchess and Geronimo from pups, and for the early part of their lives, they were well-socialized and even used as ambassadors at two previous wolf centers. As they matured, however, the intense socialization decreased and they were left with little attention from outside sources. While the staff member is no longer present at the Sanctuary, the trio remains with us and Wild Spirit has accepted resonsiblity for their permanent care and sanctuary.

Duchess is a very shy animal who might act out if she feels stressed. Despite the years of socialization she received when she was younger, she prefers to remain aloof and reserved. It is vital that anyone in her enclosure watches out for the female wolf, because her mood and temperment can switch quickly. Duchess lives with her brother Geronimo, and the two of them have a strong sibling bond. Since she has been moved onto the tour path, Duchess has become a bit more social and will sometimes trot up to meet tours walking by. Duchess is a pure wolf; part Arctic wolf, part Timber wolf.
