Luna

When Luna was only six months old, she lived with an owner in Minneapolis. One day Luna escaped from her owner's backyard and, when cornered by a neighbor, bit out in fear. Unfortunately, she was seized by animal control and was ordered to be euthanized. Her owner managed to get a temporary restraining order to stop Luna's death, but instead of bringing Luna relief, she was stuffed into a tiny cage at animal control to be impounded. Luna's life was now lived out in solitary confinement, which only worsened the situation. Because Luna bit out of fear, animal control personnel hardly went in to clean her. Luna eventually lost her fur, her muscles atrophied, and she lost much weight. When we learned of Luna's plight in October of 1998, we contacted the Minneapolis Animal Control in an attempt to rescue her. Her owner, however, balked at the thought of sending Luna away and refused our offer. The sanctuary tried for over six months to persuade the owner, fearing that the owner only wanted Luna to breed her. Finally, in December of 1999, we received a call from the owner. Luna was living in a small crate in her owner's garage. We readily accepted Luna from her plight.

It was a very exciting time when we first got to place Luna in a large enclosure; she has never experienced so much freedom! Luna is extremely inquisitive, especially with the things that are brought inside her enclosure. If she becomes comfortable with a caregiver, she might nip them on the back of their legs. It is important, however, that you never corner Luna, for she will become instantly nervous and begin her fear biting. Because of her dire past, Luna is always crazy about food. If you enter her enclosure with food on you, she will try to wrestle it from you. Luna does enjoy fence-fighting with her neighbor, Selena, especially when food is involved. Luna is very close with her mate, Sunbear, and the two get along great. The only problems occur during feeding, when Luna's food aggression kicks up.

Luna is a very high-content wolf dog, with black phased Timber wolf.
