Raven was first raised in North California by a young man, who unfortunately, could not take proper care of him. The young man's parents became Raven's new owners, and they loved him very dearly. The parents, however, realized it was illegal to own a wolf or wolf dog in their county, and searched around desperately for a place to take him. Finally, they decided that the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary would be the best place for their loved wolf, and made arrangements with us to take him. A month before coming here, one of Raven's owners suffered a heart attack, they lost their business, and they were cited by Animal Control for owning a wolf. Despondent, the parents decided they could not afford to send Raven to our sanctuary, and set up an appointment with the vet to euthanize him. Desperate, and with only three days before Raven's appointment, we at the sanctuary set out a plea via internet to raise money to transfer Raven. Two days before Raven's vet date, a visitor to the sanctuary who had heard about Raven's plight, donated the money to ship him. Raven arrived here on July 1st, 1997. |

Raven is a beautiful specimen who is intensely social. He absolutely adores people; he loves them so much, that for nine years Raven went out into the public to be our ambassador animal. However, he is now getting older, and has since retired. On occasion, he will still go out for a special treat. Raven is enjoying retirement, and will spend most of his days in his small purple box (which is remarkable how he can fit in it!) watching the world go by. For tours, Raven will usually give a spectacular demonstration of his howl, which he loves to do as long as the tourists join in with him! He enjoys toys, like stuffed animals and over-sized tennis balls; the only thing he really hates is having his feet touched. Raven lives with his mate, Cheyenne, after his previous mate Doska passed away. Raven acts more like a father towards Cheyenne than a boyfriend; he will continually discipline her when she becomes too rambunctious.
