Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary focuses its efforts greatly on educating the general public about the wild wolf, wolves and wolf-dogs in captivity, and the difference between wild and domestic animals. Since the Sanctuary first began, our Ambassador teams have been visiting schools and beyond to offer people of all ages to opportunity to meet a full-grown wolf.
Bring a Wolf to your Classroom!
Your students will never forget the day a large wolf walks into their classroom...and chances are, you won't forget it either! Wild Spirit's Education team travels around New Mexico or further to teach students about wolves. One of our Ambassador wolves will be present to better demonstrate to students such points as wolf physical characteristics and behavior.
Each presentation our Ambassador Team does is catered to the age, size, and interest of the group. Typical presentations last between 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours in length, but we can make the presentation shorter or longer depending on your needs. Ask us about scheduling multiple presentations in one day. It is largely a question and answer presentation so that we can be sure to cover the information that interests your students.
During the presentation, we will discuss these ideas and many more:
- The wild wolf: its diet, hunting strategies, family life, physical adaptations, and pack structure.
- The difference between wolves and dogs, wild and domestic animals, and the reasons why wild animals are not for casual pet owners.
- The myths about wolves portrayed by the media, where these ideas originated, and why they are false.
- Information about wolf-dogs and why the term "hybrid" is confusing. For older students, we may even get into a discussion dealing with genetics as related to wolf-dogs.
