History
Choctaw spent the majority of his life living in Arizona, outside of Phoenix. Unfortunately, his owner had to leave him in the care of a relative for four years. At the time he left, seven wolves and wolf-dogs were at the Arizona residence. Sadly, the irresponsible caretaker allowed the animals to become anti-social, the house to be foreclosed upon, and four of the wolf-dogs to escape before being hit by cars. When the original owner returned, he attempted to re-purchase the house and heal his relationship with Choctaw and his companions, Skii and Kamotz, but his efforts were to no avail. He called Wild Spirit, and since several older ladies were available for roommates, we decided to pick them up in November of 2009.

Rest in Peace
March 5, 1997 - April 5, 2010
Choctaw was an old man when he arrived at the Sanctuary, already thirteen years old. A few months after arriving, we noticed a large lump underneath his front leg. We brought him to the vet, but due to his age, they thought it would be best to monitor it. We continued to watch Choctaw, but after a few weeks, the lump appeared larger, so he went back to the vet. The veterinarian did not want to operate, believing that Choctaw would not survive through the surgery. He returned to the Sanctuary and was placed on pain medications, but Choctaw's spark began fading. He soon refused to eat, and spent most of his time sleeping. It wasn't long until we realized that Choctaw might be experiencing his last days. He passed away peacefully during the day.

Profile
Bio: Choctaw was possibly a low-content wolf-dog, or might be pure dog.
Personality: Choctaw wanted to be affectionate...but was not quite brave enough! He was intensely curious about everything around him, including caretakers or strange objects. He showed great promise for opening up to people, and became very jealous if Angel stole all of the attention. During his time here, we were able to begin taking him on walks.
Likes: Playing with Skii and Angel, barking at passing animals on a walk, and sniffing caretakers for the latest "gossip".
Dislikes: Being ignored, animals going on a walk around him, and his next-door neighbor Lani.
