Kamotz

History

Kamotz spent the majority of his life living in Arizona, outside of Phoenix. Unfortunately, his owner had to leave him in the care of a relative for four years. At the time he left, seven wolves and wolf-dogs were at the Arizona residence. Sadly, the irresponsible caretaker allowed the animals to become anti-social, the house to be foreclosed upon, and four of the wolf-dogs to escape before being hit by cars. When the original owner returned, he attempted to re-purchase the house and heal his relationship with Kamotz and his companions, Skii and Choctaw, but his efforts were to no avail. He called Wild Spirit, and since several older ladies were available for roommates, we decided to pick them up in November of 2009.

Kamotz was not a young animal, and was already eleven years old when he arrived. While doing rounds, a volunteer went up to Kamotz's enclosure to deliver his medball. Upon realizing that Kamotz was not getting up, the volunteer radioed for assistance. The staff entered the enclosure to discover that he was acting lethargic and breathing heavily. After examining Kamotz and discussing his situation, it was clear that he was passing away from natural causes, and it was decided to let him pass away peacefully at the Sanctuary. The volunteers continued to check on him throughout the day, and later that evening, Kamotz's original owner drove from Arizona to bid farewell to his long-time friend. The next day, in consideration to any pain or discomfort he might be experiencing, Kamotz was euthanized.

Profile

Bio: Kamotz was a low to mid-content wolf-dog.
Personality: Kamotz was extremely shy, and having Luna as a companion did not make it any easier for volunteers to go in and try to socialize him. Kamotz mostly kept to himself as he watched the world go by from the back of his enclosure. Although first impressions might have made it seem that Luna was the "top-dog" of the enclosure, Kamotz wa easily able to hold his own and was not afraid to make Luna back away from his food.
Likes: His vitaball.
Dislikes: His neighbors Teton and Shasta, too many people around his enclosure, and Luna when she tries to pull something.
Fun Fact: Kamotz was tougher than he looked! Luna once had kicked an animal out of her enclosure, and we were worried that the same fate might befall Kamotz. When the big introduction came, everyone watched anxiously. Luna, once she realized that Kamotz was in her enclosure, rushed towards him quickly! Kamotz, on the other hand, appeared to care less and just ignored the charging Luna! Luna seemed quite confused, and after one more attempt, gave it up altogether. That's when we knew the two would be all right.
