Shakti

History

Shakti, along with brothers Chaka Zulu, Ghengis Khan, Taza, and Zeus, and sisters Lycea and Selena, was born at Wild Spirit by mother, Nashoba, and father, Ammon Ra on Easter Sunday, 1996. Nashoba passed away shortly after birth due to gastric torsion. Shakti and her littermates were raised by both humans and wolves. For a while, the pack lived with their aunt, Natasha, and uncle, Nookta. When the pack was finally split up, Shakti remained with her brother, Zeus, until his passing in August of 2007.

Rest in Peace

Shakti was an older lady, but always remained spunky. She still liked to play with her much younger boyfriend, Flurry, and receive attention from her caretaker. We always knew that Shakti was getting on in years, but her behavior and attitude made it easy to overlook. One morning, while the volunteers were doing rounds, it was discovered that Shakti had passed away during the night. Everyone was surprised, but grateful that it went so smoothly. Early that morning, many of the volunteers had heard the mourning howls from the animals, wishing Shakti farewell.

Profile

Bio: Shakti was a Timber wolf. She had six siblings: Chaka Zulu, Ghengis Khan, Lycea, Selena, Taza, and Zeus. All of her siblings have passed away.
Personality: Shakti was a dominant, self-assured animal that had a playful side as well. Although she became excited when caretakers came in to visit, she was sensitive to body posturing, whether accidental or not. Shakti was also known to be quite mischievous, and had "tricked" caretakers into initiating a dominance ritual. Ever since her last companion, Flurry, moved in, it seemed Shakti reverted to a puppy attitude and behaved much more affectionately.
Likes: Fence-fighting with neighbor Cove, butt-scratches, and sleeping in tall weeds.
Dislikes: Cove getting attention/fed first, caretakers leaning over her, and meaty bones.
Fun Fact: A long-time rivalry has existed between Shakti and her next-door neighbor, Cove. Shakti struck first by biting off part of Cove's nose; Cove retaliated by slitting Shakti's lip, which still droops to this day. Their rivalry continued well into the ladies' golden years!
