Shauntehey

History

Shauntehey was brought here from Seal Beach Animal Care Center in California. She had living in Nevada where her original owner kicked and beat her. A woman who lived in Salt Lake City rescued Shauney and nursed the malnourished dog back to health. At her new home, neighborhood kids became a problem when they began throwing rocks at her in attempt to get her to howl. The woman began seeking for a safe refuge for Shauntehey, and brought her to Seal Beach. Seal Beach called us to see if we would take Shauney, and we accepted.

Rest in Peace
1996 - April 26, 2010

Shauntehey was one of our older females living at the Sanctuary. During an unusually harsh winter, she began having troubles with her health and hind legs. Even as spring began to bloom, Shauntehey still was having difficulties. We believe she might have been experiencing kidney failure, and in the days before she passed away, she lost her appetite and energy. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her penmates, Amadeus and Wapahnee.

Profile

Bio: Shauney was a low-content wolf-dog, possibly a pure dog.
Personality: Shauney was one of the loudest animals in the morning - she loved to scold caretakers for not feeding her fast enough! She was all bark and no bite. While she enjoyed human attention, she generally let Amadeus and Wapahnee take the lead with volunteers inside the enclosure.
Likes: Meaty bones, gossiping during morning chores, and harassing Wapahnee.
Dislikes: Not being cared for first in the morning, Amadeus stealing her food, and animals in her enclosure going on walks without her.
Fun Fact: Shauney barks at everything! When her food is late, when her food is early, if Wapahnee is standing too close, when animals walk past her enclosure, when her caretaker is giving Amadeus attention - you name it, you can bet she has something to say about it!
