Meet our Staff

The Sanctuary's continuing development and growth can be attributed to its dedicated staff and volunteers. Their hard work and generosity ensures the best care for our animals.

Our Director

Leyton Cougar originally volunteered at the then named "Candy Kitchen Rescue Ranch" in the summer of 1996 after meeting Jacque Evans several years earlier and then relocating to Candy Kitchen, New Mexico. His plan to volunteer only once or twice a week changed as he became more involved in the dream of providing a safe haven for wolves and wolf-dogs. In 2003, Leyton Cougar took over as Executive Director of Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and has dedicated himself to our cause ever since. Leyton has traveled around the country with an Ambassador wolf teaching the public the truth about wolves. He continues to improve the Sanctuary every way he can and still travels to different schools and libraries to educate.

Our Staff

Angel Bennett

Like many volunteers over the past few years, Angel Bennett came to Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in May 2005 performing a cooperative work term for Antioch College in Ohio. Throughout her work term Angel proved to be a hardworking, dedicated volunteer with a passion for the animals. When her work term ended she returned to Antioch College, but only after a month away, Angel returned to Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary to continue her work with the wolves. Angel now acts as Assistant to the Director and handles all donations and memberships, as well as coordinates our volunteer program. She is also responsible for other small tasks too numerous to mention.

Georgia Cougar

Georgia Cougar is the wife of our director, Leyton Cougar. She originally came for a tour at Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in 1998 and fell in love with its mission and animals. Georgia met Leyton several months later during a return visit to WSWS and became Mrs. Cougar in 2001. Since that time, she has been working in various areas of development, marketing, and administration at the Sanctuary. She creates our quarterly newsletter, The Howling Reporter, as well as brochures, advertisements, merchandise, and membership package items.

Allison Bailey

Allison Bailey came to Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary as a volunteer in June 2006, two days after graduating from Hebron High School in Texas. She began working on the website during her planned one-year stay and became dedicated to Wild Spirit's mission. When her planned stay came to an end, she was invited to join the staff. She now maintains the website and coordinates outreach and educational events for the Sanctuary. She also snaps many of the Sanctuary's photographs and assists in various animal care tasks.

Volunteers

People from all over the world come to Wild Spirit to help these animals in need. We owe so much to our ever-changing group of volunteers that dedicate their time and energy to improve the Sanctuary.
