Volunteers who come to Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary with the intention of being an animal caretaker commit to no less than 60 days. Due to the sensitive nature of working with wild animals, as well as the stress that a large change-over of caretakers can cause the aniamls, this time frame is a necessity. Volunteers who come to the sanctuary all stay on ranch property and are provided with primitive housing arrangements ranging from a Hogan, cabin, or trailer, to a dormitory style building. Volunteers are also provided with all food, and after 30 days, if funding permits, may be offered a small stripend.
This type of lifestyle and work is not for everyone. Those who wish to volunteer at Wild Spirit must be a special breed of people. A volunteer must be first and foremost respectful and compassionate toward all living creatures. Volunteers must be dedicated to not only providing impeccable care for the animals, but also to be a walking educational tool, teaching the public about the wild wolf and the epidemic of abused and abandoned captive bred wolves and wolf dogs. Volunteers must be able to entertain themselves, away from the luxuries of the media, restaurants and city activity. Volunteers must be able to live in all weather conditions, whether by building fire to stay warm in the winter or preparing to fight sun burn and bug-bites in the summertime. Volunteers that come to the Sanctuary must also be very self-motivated, responsible and level-headed. Before anything else, if you are interested in volunteering at the sanctuary, remember that this is a rescue for animals, not for people. When a volunteer comes here, they must be self-sufficient, of sound-mind and in general, a well-rounded invididual.

While living and volunteering at the sanctuary is challenging, the benefits of the experience are limitless...
