Short-term Volunteers
Some people like to come to WSWS for only a day or a weekend, but want to help out during their visit. Projects and activities these volunteers are involved in vary greatly. Many times, individuals come out with a particular skill or interest and assist the WSWS staff with a basic project. Sometimes, volunteers want to stay for a few weeks or even a couple of months and help out wherever needed. These volunteers are provided with a campsite, or, in special circumstances, may be provided with housing during their stay. Short-term volunteers are rarely if ever involved in direct interaction with the animals. Due to the sensitive nature of working with wild animals and the stress that a frequent change-over of caretakers can cause, this is a necessity. Nonetheless, their efforts are an enormous asset to our Sanctuary in other ways.

Group Volunteering
In the past, Boy Scout, Cub Scout, and Girl Scout troops have visited the Sanctuary often to do service projects. We love having groups to help out with various projects! Many times, specialty camping rates are arranged, and in the past, we have even hosted campfire programs and special feeding tours for groups that volunteer their services.

We would also love to have hobby clubs that may be interested in the Sanctuary visit and help out for a day. Those groups with interest and knowledge of landscaping are particularly desired!

Outreach & Event Volunteers
We are lucky enough to have a few dedicated individuals who are always willing to lend a helping hand at various Outreach events in Albuquerque and other New Mexico areas. These wonderful people come help us when we're set up at events, in front of store fronts and doing other programs. When we're busy educating the public, handling an outreach animal and trying to manage the merchandise, we simply couldn't survive without these fantastic people! If you'd love to help Wild Spirit, but the drive to Candy Kitchen is a little much, please consider helping us when we're in your area.

"I heard about the Sanctuary from my family. I always loved animals and I have always wanted to work with them, but living in Albuquerque without a vehicle made it hard to get to Wild Spirit. I still wanted to contribute to the Sanctuary, so I got involved with Outreach events. I thoroughly enjoy talking to people about Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and seeing the different reactions to what I say. It's a great experience to build people skills. Plus...I do get to visit with one or two of the wolf ambassadors at each event!" - Becca Pauley, 18
