We have had to update our Volunteer page due to the overwhelming number of applications. Right now, all volunteer housing units are full until December 2008. We have only a very few available spots for December 2008, January 2009, and February 2009. We will not be accepting any additional volunteers with starting dates in March or April 2009. If you would like to volunteer with us, we still have spots open for summer 2009 and encourage you to apply early, however, no decisions will be made on these volunteers until February - March 2009.

The ambassadors are taking a rest until the outreach event coming in the next few weeks. Forest, however, is looking very nice thanks to the recent donation of 3v Caps that help with coat and skin. Christine, Marie, Jon, and Amy have all donated these supplements for Forest Pack, Cove and Lucian, and Iowa Trio. The difference is noticeable, and all of these kids have much nicer coats now. We give a big thanks to all of the members who helped to send these supplements our way.

Lucky in Love (Finally!)
Our poor old man, Doc, has had many problems with the opposite sex of recent. He has gone through three different girlfriends since Whitney passed away, and all three decided that it was much more fun to beat up Doc then cuddle with him. However, Doc's lucky star has finally started to shine. Saturday evening, a little Arctic wolf named Riot arrived at the Sanctuary. She came all the way from California to meet up with our bachelor, Doc. Riot's owner loves her very much, but she wanted more space for Riot to run in and have canines to socialize with. She thought that Wild Spirit would be a better home for the little girl. Sunday afternoon, we walked Riot over to the waiting Doc. Her submissive behavior is perfect for the already shy man, and for the first time in a long time, Doc was greeted by passive licks and whines, compared to the threatening growls and snarls he received before.

It has been a few days since their introduction, and the pair seems to be getting along. Riot, having very little canine interaction before coming to the Sanctuary, seems a little apprehensive to the much older (and larger) Doc. We are hoping with time, she will become more comfortable. When we get some cute photos of little Riot, we will be sure to put up her profile in the Animal Stories section of the website. Better yet, come out and visit the Sanctuary to see this cute girl yourself!

Goodbye TC
We say goodbye to one of our smallest four-legged friends, TC. He was found in a cardboard box sitting on the front steps of the Sanctuary with his brother, Weeblo. They lived almost their entire lives at the Sanctuary, and became quite well-known among frequent tour guests and the volunteers. TC was never as adventurous as his brother, and instead preferred to hang out around the back patio. He would spend the morning sitting on the picnic tables with the volunteers while they drank their coffee and gossiped. He never seemed startled by any of the canines that frequently visited the courtyard, including Forest (who once grabbed TC, and after TC hissed, immediately dropped.) He kept volunteers warm by sitting on their laps during winter (or perhaps he was keeping himself warm), and if refused into the volunteer kitchen, TC always managed to find a way in. He also became known as "Trash-Cat", for he would eat anything dropped, including potato chips, jelly beans, and banana. He had lost several pounds during his last months, and the vet warned us that his time might be short due to his severe kidney failure. He passed away after being watched and cared for by one of our volunteers, Danielle.

Our Wild Spirit family is a tight-knit group. We have volunteers come and go constantly, but most everyone feels apart of a giant, ever-changing family. Even the cats that wander around the grounds become close to us, and we are always sad to seem them go. We thank every volunteer who has spoiled TC with treats and made him apart of their lives, and thank any tour guest that wandered by and gave him a scratch on his head (he appreciated it.) We will miss you, TC.

Gary Mauer has helped us out a lot! A few weeks ago, he was able to convince Annie Haslam (http://www.anniehaslam.com/) to create a painting and give us all rights to the image. Gary then printed the image onto greeting cards and is selling the cards on Ebay, with 100% of the proceeds donated to Wild Spirit! Please check out his Ebay auction and think of purchasing a greeting card to help out the Sanctuary.

We just wanted to send a big thank you to Christine Crawford and Leontine Bailey for sending us the much needed Dymo Stamps Mailing Solution! No more dragging fifty parcels to the post office over an hour away to send off membership packages. Their donation was a huge help. Thanks guys!

I Need a Home!
We have a low content wolf-dog that needs a home! She came here with her three pups, and now that her kids have been adopted out, we need to find a home for Momma! She is sweet and social, and although she has been spayed, she has not had all of her shots yet. We do not know her exact age, but we believe she is at least six years old. She would be a great companion in an adult home. If you have any questions or have an interest in adopting this sweet girl, call us at (505) 775-3304 or email us at info@wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org.

Wolves will try to find a mate by becoming "floaters". They wander between the borders of pack territories, sometimes areas three times larger than a normal pack territory, in search of a mate.
