Although our new animal, Riot, doesn't have a page up on the Animal Stories yet, she is up on the Animal Sponsorship page. If you would like to help out this cute new girl, give the page a visit and make her apart of your four-legged family.

Christmas is only four months away (where did the year go?), so it is time to start thinking about ordering Wild Spirit Christmas cards! With four different vintage-style cards featuring our animals, it is a great way to send holiday cheer to your loved ones. Check out our Christmas Card Order page to order your share for this year.

The months of August and September are filling up fast with things to do and places to see. Among the long list of upcoming errands are several outreach events we will be attending. Expect to see Storm and Forest out and about for the next month, and perhaps one of our other back-up ambassadors as well. We believe Storm will be visiting the Mother Whiteside Library this week on Wednesday with Leyton, so swing by if you want to hear an interesting talk on wolves and the Sanctuary.

Poor Sunbear
About a month ago, we wrote about Sunbear who was found with a large mass in his groin region. The vet was able to successfully remove the tumor, and it seemed that Sunbear was on the road to recovery. The vet warned us that these tumors grow back quickly, but we were hoping that it would be months until we saw signs of its return. Unfortunately, it seems that just a month after the tumor was first spotted, it is beginning to cause Sunbear trouble again. The location of the growth is giving Sunbear considerable strain with his groin region, so we removed him from his enclosure once again and placed him back into our isolation pen to give us better access. It was there that we were able to feel the growth. For now, Sunbear will remain in isolation, for it is the one place we can continually check up on him. He was placed on antibiotics to prevent against any possible infections, and the volunteers visit him several times a day. Although the tumor is fast growing, we expect he will still be with us for several more months, although, only time will tell for sure. Sunbear and Luna both miss each other dearly, and we hope to reunite them soon once we have a more concrete plan for Sunbear. Send your good thoughts to our poor boy!

A lot of work has been accomplished on our fox enclosure. When finished, it will be the nicest enclosure on the property and set the bar that we want all of our enclosures to reach one day. Our volunteers have been working hard to get it finished, and with the director, Leyton, by their side, they are making huge leaps and bounds. Check out the wolf story this week to read about all the amenities the fox enclosure will have.

Our supply of rubber gloves is once again running low. We use rubber gloves to protect ourselves from the contaminants in raw meat, and to help keep the Sanctuary germ-free as we walk around to feed animals. We could use either latex or vinyl gloves of all sizes, and appreciate any help you could give us.

I Need a Home!
We have a low content wolf-dog that needs a home! She came here with her three pups, and now that her kids have been adopted out, we need to find a home for Momma! She is sweet and social, and although she has been spayed, she has not had all of her shots yet. We do not know her exact age, but we believe she is at least six years old. She would be a great companion in an adult home. If you have any questions or have an interest in adopting this sweet girl, call us at (505) 775-3304 or email us at info@wildspiritwolfsanctuary.org.

The last way for a wolf to get a shot at breeding is to usurp an established breeder. This happens when either one of the breeders leaves the position on their own, or rarely, another member takes the position by force. Challenges of this sort happens more in captivity.
